Stay-at-home laws are changing American schedules, workflows and dating now due to the coronavirus. With 25 percent of all Americans being forced to stay indoors, and businesses in cities around the country being closed, singles can not go out to bars and restaurants to meet people. Consequently, during the COVID-19 outbreak, dating apps are seeing a significant increase in demand.
Notable deficiencies have been reported. The dating feature of Facebook has largely fallen flat but an integration with its Messenger video service could breathe new life into that company.
For now, dating sites are focused on raising awareness about health and raising communication in an isolated period. LINDA, a 29-year-old woman quarantining in Chicago, says she’s been on five virtual dates. When compared to her face-to-face dates, these online meetups are about equal in frequency but differ in quality.
